Hodges
President

As president of Metrics, Phil Hodges is responsible for guiding the strategic direction and growth of the company.
Since founding Metrics in 1994, Hodges has overseen its transition from a start-up analytical laboratory with four employees to one of the Southeast’s premier pharmaceutical development laboratories with more than 200 employees. Throughout his tenure, Metrics has experienced double-digit annual revenue growth.
Prior to starting Metrics, Hodges worked for 11 years at Burroughs Wellcome Co. (which eventually became part of GlaxoSmithKline) in the development and validation of analytical methods.
Hodges holds bachelor’s
and master’s of science degrees in chemistry
and analytical chemistry from East Carolina University.
Gerald (Jerry) D. Sakowski
Senior Vice President, Business Operations
Jerry Sakowski is responsible for managing all of Metrics’ operations. He also oversees the company’s continued growth through business development.
Sakowski has spent his entire career working within the contract testing services industry. He worked more than six years with Oneida Research Services in Whitesboro, N.Y., serving as a group leader in its physical testing services division. After serving at Applied Analytical Industries in Wilmington, N.C., as its analytical business manager, he joined Metrics in 1997 as director of marketing and sales, later becoming director of business development. He was promoted to vice president of business development in 2002.

John T. Bray, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President/Director of Plant Operations
As executive vice president, Bray oversees the practical aspects of nearly every area of the company’s growth. He also serves as the director of plant operations. Bray was a founding partner of Metrics in 1994.
Bray has more than 35 years of experience in analytical chemistry, research, management and entrepreneurial activities.
Bray holds a bachelor’s
of science degree in chemistry from Rose Hulman Institute
of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., and master’s
and doctoral degrees in chemical oceanography and
geochemistry, respectively, from The Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore.
Danny A. Shive
Vice President of Pharmaceutical Operations
As vice president of pharmaceutical operations, Shive is responsible for formulation and process development of clients’ products, including meeting clients’ needs for elegant, effective dosage forms using processes that exceed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements.
Shive has extensive experience in writing and editing regulatory documents for filing with the FDA to obtain approval for clients’ new pharmaceutical products.
Shive holds a bachelor’s
of science degree in pharmacy from the University
of Georgia and a bachelor’s of science degree
in textiles from Clemson University in South Carolina.
Steve Taylor
Chief Financial Officer/Vice President of Finance
and Human Resources
In his capacity at Metrics, Taylor is responsible for forecasting, cash management, accounting practices, audits, risk management, recruiting and benefit management.
After spending two years in public accounting at Massengill & Best, CPA, Taylor gained more than 18 years of industrial accounting experience in textiles and heavy equipment manufacture with Ansell-Edmont, a division of Pacific Dunlop and Consolidated Diesel Co. His expertise includes all aspects of cost and general accounting.
Taylor earned his bachelor’s
of science degree in business with a concentration
in accounting from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill.
Jeffery (Jeff) C. Basham
Vice President, Business Development
Jeff Basham is responsible for the development and execution of Metrics marketing and sales plan as well as for managing the company’s sales staff. He also helps formulate the contract services sales forecasts and serves on the Metrics senior management team.
Basham joined Metrics in 2003. He has 30 years of experience in the health-care products industry, having previously held titles of chief executive officer and president in addition to sales and marketing positions.
Basham holds an undergraduate
degree from The American University in Washington,
D.C., and a master’s of business administration
degree from Keller Graduate School of Management in
Chicago.
Michael D. Ruff, PharmD, CPIP
Vice President, Pharmaceutical Development
Ruff helps lead a team of seasoned pharmaceutical scientists and technicians at Metrics.
Prior to joining Metrics in 1997, Ruff had 11 years of experience as a formulation scientist with a concentration on solid dosage forms and clinical trial manufacture.
Ruff holds four patents and one patent pending for innovative drug stabilization techniques and coating technology. Commercial pharmaceutical products he has formulated include Wellbutrin SR®/Zyban®, Lamictal®, and Agenerase®.
Ruff holds bachelor’s
of science degrees in pharmacy and zoology from the
University of Texas.
Tom Wilson
Vice President, Quality Operations
As Vice President of Quality Operations and part of the Metrics senior management team Wilson is responsible for the all aspects of the Quality Control function within Metrics. In addition, Wilson works closely with his colleagues in the quality assurance, analytical development and pharmaceutical development areas to ensure effective and timely implementation of client’s projects at Metrics.
Wilson has over 29 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry managing or directing Quality Control, Stability and Analytical Development laboratories. Prior to joining Metrics, Inc. in 2000 Wilson worked with other large pharmaceutical companies including Burroughs Wellcome and Schwarz Pharma.
Wilson holds a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from East Carolina University.
Kym A. Rispress
Associate Director of Analytical Services
Rispress is responsible for several analytical functions at Metrics ranging from supervising senior chemists and group leaders to reviewing and approving analytical reports, protocols and other documentation.
Prior to joining Metrics in 1996, Rispress served as a research scientist for more than 20 years at Burroughs Wellcome Co. and previously at Glaxo-Wellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline).
Rispress holds a bachelor’s
of arts degree in chemistry from Ohio State University.
Krzysztof (Chris) Golebiowski
Associate Director of Analytical Services
As associate director of analytical services, Golebiowski is responsible for directing group leaders and laboratory supervisors, as well as overseeing all scientific and business aspects of the analytical services department at Metrics. He joined Metrics in 1997.
Golebiowski’s career as an analytical chemist spans more than 20 years and includes positions with Glaxo-Wellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline), Rhone-Poulenc Rorer and Dupont Biomedical.
Golebiowski holds a bachelor’s
of science degree in chemistry from the University
of Delaware.
Thomas B. Gold, Ph.D.
Director of Pharmaceutical Development and New Technology
As director of pharmaceutical development and new technology, Gold’s responsibilities include evaluating and implementing new technology platforms, assessing new business opportunities, and supervising a key team of scientists responsible for pre-formulation, formulation development, process development and scale-up/transfer of solid dose products.
Gold earned his Ph.D. in pharmaceutics/medicinal
chemistry from the University of Kentucky. He also
holds master’s and bachelor’s of science
degrees in chemistry from the same institution.
Joe Cascone
Director of Potent Pharmaceutical Development
Joe Cascone oversees Metrics expansion of its potent and cytotoxic drug handling capabilities. He previously served as Metrics’ manager of pharmaceutical development, where he was directly responsible for all aspects related to the formulation of solid-oral and liquid-dosage forms for high-quality, fast-track contract GMP pilot-plant supporting pre-clinical to phase 3 projects.
Cascone holds a bachelor’s of science degree in biology and chemistry from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from East Carolina University.
Marsha B. Harrawood
Senior Director, Quality Assurance
As senior director of quality assurance, Harrawood is responsible for ensuring that Metrics operates in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, when applicable. In addition, she oversees quality control audits; hosts external audits and conducts training classes on GMP for Metrics employees.
Harrawood has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry managing or directing quality assurance. Prior to joining Metrics, Inc., in 1995, Harrawood worked with Burroughs Wellcome as a development and quality control scientist.
Harrawood holds an associate’s of applied science degree in environmental sciences from Pitt Community College.
H. Mitchell Williamson
Senior Director, Client Services
As senior director of client services, Williamson manages a 5-person team that reviews the client scope of work, develops and tracks quotes and the financial interface between Metrics and the client. A member of the senior management team, he assures the timely response to client needs for quotes, revised plans, , estimates, invoicing and discrepancies for projects so that Metrics can continue to build successful and long-term relationships with clients.
Williamson has more than 27 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Before joining Metrics in 1995, Williamson worked with Burroughs Wellcome and the East Carolina University School of Medicine.
Williamson holds a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from East Carolina University.
